Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure performed to correct the appearance of the upper and/or lower eyelids. It may be performed for aesthetic or medical reasons.

Aesthetic reasons include removing excess skin and fat deposits in the eyelid area, eliminating bags under the eyes, and giving the face a more youthful, fresh appearance. Medical reasons may include eliminating the limitation of the field of vision caused by excess skin on the upper eyelids, or eliminating discomfort and irritation caused by drooping lower eyelids.

Indications for surgery may include:

  • drooping upper eyelid
  • the presence of "bags" under the eyes (hernias)
  • drooping outer corners of the eyes
  • epicanthus, or "Mongolian fold"
  • deep wrinkles in the upper/lower eyelids
  • swelling of the eyelids, heavy look
  • fatty hernias in the lower eyelids.

Contraindications to surgery:

  • diabetes mellitus
  • diseases of the lungs, liver, kidneys, cardiovascular system in the stage of decompensation
  • pregnancy (current or planned in the near future)
  • breastfeeding
  • acute infectious diseases
  • blood clotting disorder.

The operation is performed under local anesthesia and lasts about 1.5 hours. The postoperative period is painless. The stitches are removed on the 7th day after the operation. Swelling goes away within 2 months. It is also necessary to avoid exposure of the stitches to sunlight, limit physical activity and sports, and limit visits to steam rooms (baths, saunas) for 2 months.
