Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty – this is an operation aimed at correcting the shape of the nose, as well as restoring respiratory function.

Types of rhinoplasty

According to the methods of correction, there are:

  • closed ( without incisions on the visible parts of the face)
  • open (performed when serious correction is required, with incisions in the nose area, in particular, between the nostrils).

According to the specifics of the operation distinguish:

  • primary correction (when the operation is performed for the first time)
  • secondary rhinoplasty.

By the specifics of the intervention:

  • non-surgical correction (to eliminate minor changes)
  • septoplasty (correction of a crooked nose) partitions)
  • conchoplasty (correction of the nasal conchae)
  • actually plastic surgery of the tissues of the nose.

The choice of one or another type of plastic correction is made taking into account the general condition the patient, the characteristics of his physiology, wishes.

Indications for use

Indications for this type of intervention can be divided into medical and aesthetic. Medical ones include:

  • congenital or acquired pathology of the shape of the nose (hare lip, cleft palate)
  • traumatic damage to the nose, loss of part of the tissue
  • disorders nasal breathing and a number of others.

For aesthetic reasons:

  • excessive or insufficient size of the nose or its parts (too large or small nostrils, saddle-shaped bridge and etc.);
  • asymmetrical nose;
  • disharmonious size of the nose relative to other facial features (for example, too long a nose or an overly pronounced hump).

Contraindications

Contraindications to rhinoplasty are divided into absolute and temporary. Absolute ones include:

  • blood clotting disorders
  • severe systemic diseases in the acute stage
  • diseases caused by immune disorders in the acute stage (HIV and others)
  • age under 17 years (nasal tissues are still growing during this period).

Temporary include:

  • acute respiratory diseases;
  • exacerbation of chronic diseases, especially systemic ones;
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding (during this period any surgical interventions are undesirable).

Anesthesia

Depending on the complexity of the intervention, rhinoplasty is performed under local anesthesia (combined with sedatives) or general anesthesia. The doctor first determines the patient's health condition, the presence of allergic reactions to certain anesthetics.

Postoperative period

The postoperative period takes place in several stages:

  • primary : awakening from anesthesia. The patient takes painkillers and sedatives to eliminate discomfort
  • secondary: up to 10-12 days, wearing a plaster or plastic splint, restrictions on physical activity
  • final: up to two in a half to three weeks, complete disappearance of hematomas and swelling; restrictions on visiting the solarium, bathhouse, sauna, swimming pool and gym.

Result

The primary result is visible a month after the operation, when the swelling subsides and the hematomas disappear.

The result of the correction can be assessed after three months, when the tissue blood circulation is fully restored.
